Common questions

Will my customer actually accept a Prism report? +
Prism follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 3 supplier guidance — the same methodology referenced in SB 253 and required by Walmart, Apple, Amazon, and most major enterprise scope 3 programs. The report includes a full methodology statement citing emission factor sources and calculation approach, which is what procurement teams need to see. If your customer uses a specific portal, you can paste the figures directly.
What documents do I need to have ready? +
Your electricity bills (to find annual kWh), natural gas bills (therms or CCF), and fuel receipts for any company-owned vehicles. If you have HVAC systems, your service provider's maintenance records will show refrigerant recharged. That's it — no specialist knowledge required. Prism tells you exactly which line on each bill to look for.
What's the difference between Scope 1, 2, and 3? +
Scope 1 is what you burn directly — gas in your furnace, fuel in your trucks. Scope 2 is electricity you buy from the grid. Scope 3 is everything else in your supply chain — what your suppliers emit, what happens when your customers use your product. When a large company sends you a questionnaire, they're asking for your Scope 1 and 2, which become part of their Scope 3. Prism covers exactly that.
What if I have facilities in multiple locations? +
The current version handles single-facility operations. For multi-facility companies, you can combine your utility data across locations and select the grid region for your primary facility. Full multi-facility support — with per-facility breakdowns — is coming in the next release.
Is my data secure? Do you sell it? +
Your data is never sold, shared, or used for any purpose other than generating your report. We don't aggregate supplier data for resale. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

Prism is built by Seaspray Labs — a UX and software team with deep roots in fintech and climate data. We've built carbon reporting tools with the EPA, USDA, US Forest Service, and the International Rice Research Institute. We built Prism because we kept seeing the same gap: sophisticated platforms for large enterprises, and nothing affordable or self-serve for the suppliers being asked to provide data.
